List: Top Ten UK Childrens' Favourite Books
Date: June 2004
Source: StoryQuest
Base: Children aged between seven to 14 years were surveyed - no data on sample size.
Notes: Research by The Prince of Wales Arts and Kids Foundation revealed that children "were turned off by compulsory literacy lessons in schools. Children said that school-based literacy programmes are boring and they do not enjoy reading." One in five children in the United Kingdom was unable to name their favourite storybook when unprompted. Uhuh. And? One in five kids in the UK are the offspring of chavs so what's so surprising here? In the list 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' gets your editors' vote.
