List: Top Ten Countries For Music Piracy
Date: 2003
Source: IFPI
Base: 70 countries were covered and ranked by percentage of music pirated compared to total music legitamately sold.
Notes: The study by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry estimated that in China 85% of music sold was pirated. In Indonesia the figure was 80% and Mexico, Russia, and Ukraine were all cited as having piracy rates of 60% or higher. 31 countries were estimated to have larger pirated-music markets than commercial ones. The global pirate music market in 2003 was estimated at US$4.6 billion, which meant it was of a greater value than the legitimate music market of every country in the world, except the USA and Japan.
