List: Australia's Top Ten Songs of 2005
Date: January 2006
Source: Triple J listeners poll
Base: There were 606,060 votes cast by SMS and email.
Notes: This is an annual poll held by the radio station Triple J called the 'Hottest 100'. By tradition, the results are announced every Australia Day in January of the following year. Triple J is a state broadcaster targeted at the 'youth' demographic - broadly 30 years and under. Exactly 50 per cent of the 100 songs in the 2005 poll were recorded by Australian artists. Bernard Fanning's 'Wish You Well' took top spot, his first as a solo performer but the third time at the top overall having finished there with the group Powderfinger in 1999 and 2000. The band Wolfmother had six placings in the top 100, a record, with five of those in the top 39.
