List: Top 10 Newspapers in Poland by Circulation
Date: 2003
Source: ZKDP
Base: All newspapers in Poland
Notes: The number one on this list, Gazeta Wyborcza, has since been overtaken in circulation by a relatively new tabloid (founded October 2003 by Axel Springer) called 'Fakt', a racier, celebrity-filled imitation of Germany's 'Bild' (also published by Axel Springer). Gazeta Wyborcza was born out of the Solidarity movement of the 1980s, and operated as the voice of Solidarity being the first official newspaper published outside of the Communist regime's control since the late 1940s. In September 1990, Lech Walesa revoked the paper's right to use the Solidarity logo on its masthead and from that point on it became a fully independent newspaper. Gazeta Wyborcza also publishes daily local editions for a number of the largest Polish cities.
