BUSINESS / COMPANIES (General) and STOCKS

List: Top Ten Performing Stocks for decade 1995-2005

Date: December 2005

Source: The Motley Fool

Base: All publicly quoted companies on recognised US stock markets that have been listed since January 1996.

Notes: *In millions. Historical price data provided by Capital IQ. For UK small caps stocks similar research is available at Growth Company Investor, focusing on the AIM, PLUS and tech MARK stock markets for small to medium sized companies.

The Motley Fool makes three excellent remarks concerning these top performing stocks: Firstly, that they are obscure. The top performing company was Hansen Natural which sells all-natural juices and sodas and in third position SCP Pool in the wholesales swimming pool supplies and chemicals sector. Secondly, there's only one "tech" firm on the list. And third, that after 10 years of top performing growth, seven out of the top ten were still small caps. Motley FoolHidden Gems wrote: "...if you want to find the 10 best stocks of the next 10 years, you need to start small -- as in small caps."
