Notes: On a worldwide basis, the General News category reached approximately 320 million unique visitors for period June 2006, which represented 45 percent of the total online audience worldwide. The top 10 General News sites reflected consumers preferred sources for news online, with most sites having ties to traditional media outlets, with the exception of category leader Yahoo!News. "Five of the top 10 General News sites worldwide are operated by U.S.-based companies," noted Jack Flanagan, executive vice president, comScore Media Metrix. The comScore study also tracked the top ten web news sources for the United States (see link above for full results) and this too was headed by Yahoo!News.
