Notes: Bangladesh headed the list of top 10 most densely populated countries in the world in 2009, averaging 1,083 persons per sq km and comfortably ahead of the next most crowded country, Taiwan, which scored 639 persons per sq km. The Netherlands was the most densely populated European country at 402 people per sq km. The South-East region of England totals 8.3m people at 432 per sq km.
