List: Top Ten European Union Countries for Recycling Waste
Date: 2006
Source: IPPR
Base: 15 countries within the European Union.
Notes: Netherlands headed the list of European Union countries for recycling the most waste from municipal sources, with Austria and Germany following in second and third position respectively. Dutch municipal authorities either recycled, composted or in some way re-used about 65 per cent of waste received at depots. 3 per cent was sent to landfill and 32 per cent was incinerated. Portugal came bottom of the table with just 3 per cent recycling. Naughty fellows.
