List: Top Ten Countries Given Money by Venezuela 2004-2007
Date: August 2007
Source: Fundacion Justicia Y Democracia
Base: All countries receiving free or specially subsidised oil from Venezuela.
Notes: Cuba tops the list of countries would-be dictator Hugo Chavez is wasting his resources on. Incredibly, even the USA has received US$236 million worth of largesse, as the nutty caudillo attempted to make some kind of weird gesture to the downtrodden of New York. Even the UK (or more specifically, London) has received US$32 million. Here's a comparison of London vs Venezuela in socio-economic terms:
- GDP (US$ bn) - London 373 - Venezuela - 175
- GDP per head (US$) - London 49,992 - Venezuela - 6,606
- Population living under US$2 per day - London 0 - Venezuela - 27.6%
- Income ratio of richest to poorest - London 14:1 - Venezuela - 20:1
Oh yes, London needs that money all right.
Meanwhile, about half of all the Cuban doctors sent over by cuddly Castro to help the Venezuelan poor are escaping into Colombia first chance they get.
