List: Top Ten Moto GP / 500cc World Motorbike Championship Pilots (all time)

Base: All drivers who have recorded a 500cc or Moto GP Motorcycle world championship (1949-2006).
Notes: In the list below only Valentino Rossi is still competing. At the end of the 1968 season, the FIM limited gearboxes to 6 speeds and engines to four cylinders. Italy has provided the most winners (18) followed by Great Britain (17) and the United States (15). Honda is the leading manufacturer with 17 championships, closely followed by MV Agusta with 16. Yamaha have won 6 motorbike world championships, Suzuki 8, Norton 3, Gilera 3 and AJS 1. John Surtees is the only rider to win World Championship titles in 500 cc and Formula One (1964). Valentino Rossi is the only rider to win four World Championship titles in four different classes (125 cc, 250 cc, 500 cc and MotoGP). Eddie Lawson (1988 & 1989) and Valentino Rossi (2003 & 2004) are the only riders to win back-to-back world championships with different teams.
