List: Top Ten Greatest Tennis Players of the Last 40 Years
Date: 2005
Source: 'Tennis' magazine (USA)
Base: All tennis players 1965 to 2005.
Notes: This particular top ten is a disgrace. Apparently a range of tennis 'experts' were invited to vote, but how they managed to formulate these rankings is beyond your editor's ken. Pete Sampras best player ever? He was a power monkey who couldn't even win at Roland Garros. Rod Laver at eight? He should be number one as the only man to win the true 'Grand Slam' in the 'Open' era (i.e. when tennis went fully pro). No Agassi? He came in twelfth on the list yet he won all four Slam titles. Lendl makes tenth, edging out the great John McEnroe into 11th - another mistake. Roger Federer only came in 19th despite being clearly the best all-round player ever to grace a tennis court. This is a filthy top-ten and the 'experts' here are totally wrong. Shame on them all.
